The Driving Ideology

A few questions have arisen time and again when I meet people, recruit volunteers, conduct events or retrospect......why do we do it? How is Team VNC doing anything different from a tuition center?
The difference might be that we are teaching underprivileged kids for free....might be I say because the follow up question is that several NGOs are doing this....whats the difference?
My well wishers always tell me that I should grow and expand, raise funds and reach more slums.
To all of them I say please come and take initiative.....please come and try to implement the things that you want me to implement.
To all of them I ask - what do you conclude when you see 5-6 people carrying an institution on their shoulders for as long as we have at a certain level consistently without much external help?
For me the obvious answer is that the commitment is unquestionable!
Then why you ask don't we grow?
The conclusion there too is quite obvious - lack of time/resources.
At Team VNC we have an excellent habit that I am proud of, we do what we can and we promise only as much...no more. We receive a great deal of promises when people meet us and their conscience rises in the spur of the moment, these are often left unfulfilled. We have learned to get used to this over time, but I am glad that we have nor let that culture seep into us.
This is what we expect from our volunteers as well - give what you can, take what you need. No forced commitments and no lame promises.
As far as I am concerned, I am Team VNC. I am doing what makes me happy for my own sake and my own passion. I will continue to do this as long as I can.....Everything else, the questioning and criticism just does not matter.
